About John
When some people see a fallen tree branch or a scrap of lumber they see just that, scrap wood.
John sees a piece of rustic furniture or a walking stick.
He uses simple carving tools, acrylic paints and tremendous craftsmanship to turn plain wood into “a unique, truly one of a kind, and yet useable piece of art”.
John is also a member of the Ontario Craft Councils.
About Our Wood
While every effort is made to thoroughly dry the wood before using it for construction, checking and slight wood movement may occur in this furniture but will only enhance the rustic character and will not affect the structurally sound construction of the bed.
Similar to a log home, wood checks that occur prior to finish are filled similar to Mexican furniture finishing methods. All logs are peeled, sanded, and finished by hand.
We use a natural Varathane or Shellac finish which is applied to the furniture after a thorough sanding. The finished piece is smooth and durable. Stain can also be added at your request.
